I do not choose to be a common man.
It is my right to be
uncommon.
I seek opportunity to develop whatever talents
God gave me -
- not security.
I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by
having the state look after me.
I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to
build, to fail and to succeed.
I refuse to barter incentive for a dole.
I prefer
the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment
to the stale calm of utopia.
I will not trade freedom for beneficience nor
my dignity for a handout.
I will never cower before any earthly master nor bend to
any threat.
It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think
and act myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world boldly
and say - - "This, with God's help, I have done."
All this is
what it means to be an American.

We offer you a selection of poems by authors who eloquently express
ethics & ideals JRL strives to apply to their conduct and their
work.
Man often becomes what he believes him- self to be. If I have the
belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I
may not have it at the beginning
by Mahatma
Gandhi
Don't quit
when the tide is lowest, For it's just about to turn;
Don't Quit over
doubts and questions, For there's something you may learn.
Don't quit when the
night is darkest, For it's just a while 'til dawn;
Don't quit when
you've run the farthest, For the race is almose won.
Don't quit when the
hill is steepest, For your goal is almost nigh;
Don't quit, for
you're not a failure, Until you fail to try.

by Jill Wolfe
Out of the night that covers me; Black as the pit from pole to pole.
I thank what ever Gods may be; For my unconquerable soul.
It
matters not how straight the gate, How charged with punishment the scroll.
I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul
