Industrial - Manufacturing Engineering. What is it?

Everyone uses it but few have a clear picture of what it is. Manufacturing engineers use their background and knowledge of mathematics, scientific principles, processes and machinery to make decisions--about technology, machinery, people and money. They use their knowledge to design a process or system that will produce high-quality goods at a reasonable price, on a schedule for marketing and when people want those goods. Their involvement includes machines, robots, people, computer-based controls, analysis tools, information networks, and money. Because of the wide variety of needs, Engineers usually specialize in materials and manufacturing processes, process and assembly engineering, product engineering, quality controls, manufacturing systems design or other specializations. Manufacturing engineers often work in engineering teams with mechanical and electrical design engineers, applications engineers, and marketing specialists, purchasing agents and supply chain managers, human resources specialists, accountants, and financial managers. All of these occupations within a business enterprise contribute to production of a product.

Sounds like a lot of Technical Jargon - What do Engineers do for me?

JRL has provided on-going plant upgrades that include the design of new processes such as elaborate conveyor systems, automated tooling systems, ergonomic assembly processes and advanced robotics technology. The on-going processes include keeping plant "master" drawings up-to-date. JRL tracks all current and proposed plant layout configurations. JRL provides Lockout Tag out Safety Placards and instructions and performs feasibility studies, takes field measurements, performs engineering and mathematical analysis, testing, and conversions and prepares CAD and Solids Modeling drawings demonstrating the proposed or completed plant modifications. The work involves teams of a broad range of engineering and technical specialties.The list of manufacturing personnel disciplines are too long to list in this document.

JRL Engineering provides engineering services to Major Manufacturers such as the automotive and farm equipment giants as an extension to their internal and corporate engineering staffs. JRL's work ranges from very small projects to massive plant expansions working with sophisticated robotics and associated computer technologies, depending on the industry demand. JRL has provided engineering services in military, high security and trade secret engineering processes.

JRL Engineering also provides unusual services. One such project involved working as the engineering arm of investigative and legal organizations performing the technical analysis, inspections and testing of manufactured components believed to defective. JRL has provided the engineering evaluations necessary to provide "Expert Witness" services in construction or manufacturing fraud litigation
